TradeZella is a web-based trading journal that connects to 500+ brokers. PFT-EdgeBook is a free Windows desktop journal with a bridge that runs inside ATAS Classic and ATAS X. Here is how the two compare, using only what each company publishes.
Free for Windows. macOS: coming soon.
Two journals, two different starting points
TradeZella covers stocks, options, futures, forex and crypto in the browser, with built-in backtesting and trade replay. PFT-EdgeBook is built as a futures trading journal: trades arrive from ATAS, NinjaTrader 8 or Sierra Chart through a bridge on your own machine. Which one fits depends on what you trade and where you trade it.
Performance journaling, not after-the-fact journaling
When you write a trade up after the close, you already know how it ended, and that knowledge rewrites the story. PFT-EdgeBook is built for journaling while the trade is still open.
Built for the session, not for the spreadsheet.
Written after the trade
- The outcome is known, so the reason gets fitted to it. A winner looks like it was always a good idea.
- The emotion at entry has faded. What you felt when you clicked is hard to recall an hour later.
- It happens at the end of the day, from memory, and it is the first habit to go after a few weeks.
Written while you are in it
- The reason is on record before the outcome can colour it.
- Emotion and setup quality are tagged at the moment they happen, so they can be counted later.
- The note is attached to the trade it belongs to. No end-of-day ritual.
How it works in PFT-EdgeBook
The Live Desk sits on top of your platform while the session runs and shows your open positions.
Write why you took it, or speak instead of typing once you switch on voice notes. Speech is transcribed on your machine.
Pick the setup, tag emotion, setup quality and rule compliance, and rate the trade, all while the position is open.
Screenshots are taken at entry and exit, so the chart you traded from is saved with your note.
After the session, your tags turn into something you can count, next to MAE and MFE for every trade the bridge recorded.

When TradeZella is the better choice
- You trade more than futures. TradeZella covers stocks, options, forex and crypto as well.
- Your broker syncs directly. TradeZella lists auto sync for brokers such as Tradovate, Interactive Brokers and NinjaTrader, and 500+ brokers and platforms overall, by auto sync or file upload.
