Three ways firms measure drawdown
All three examples: $50,000 account, $2,000 maximum drawdown, starting loss limit $48,000.
End of day trailing
The limit moves up after the close, to the highest closing balance minus the drawdown. Close a day at $51,000 and the next day’s limit is $49,000.
Intraday trailing
The limit follows the highest balance during the day, open profit included. A trade that runs to +$1,600 lifts the limit to $49,600, even if you close at +$1,000.
Static
The limit stays at $48,000 for the life of the account. Profit adds room; it never moves the limit up.

Questions about prop firm drawdown
What is a trailing drawdown?
A loss limit that follows your highest balance upward by a fixed distance and never moves back down. On a $50,000 account with a $2,000 trailing drawdown the limit starts at $48,000; once the balance has reached $51,500 the limit is $49,500, even if the balance falls again.
What is the difference between end of day and intraday trailing drawdown?
End of day moves the limit only on the closing balance. Intraday also moves it with open profit during the day. If a trade is up $1,600 and you close the day at +$1,000, an intraday limit on a $50,000 account with $2,000 drawdown rises to $49,600, an end of day limit only to $49,000.
What does it mean when a trailing drawdown locks?
Many firms stop trailing once the limit reaches a set level, often the starting balance or the starting balance plus a small amount. From then on the limit stays fixed. Set the lock in the calculator from your firm's own rulebook.
What is a static drawdown?
A static drawdown never moves. On a $50,000 account with $2,000 static drawdown the limit is $48,000 for the whole life of the account, no matter how high the balance goes.
Does this include the daily loss limit?
No. A daily loss limit is a separate rule that resets each day. This calculator covers the maximum drawdown only, checked on closing balances.
For educational purposes, not financial advice. This tool does arithmetic on published rule types and the numbers you enter; it is not a promise that an account will pass or pay out. The firm’s own rulebook is what counts.
